See what is left of a salary after income tax and the employee's social contributions. Each country follows one clearly stated standard case – a single employee with no children, working the whole year – and the rules the authorities have published for 2026.
How we calculate this
The same salary in every country
Enter one salary in euros to see what it leaves after tax and contributions in each of the fourteen countries, converted at the European Central Bank's reference rates of 23 September 2026.
A salary converted at the exchange rate buys different things in different countries: prices in Switzerland are 84% above the EU average and in Spain 9% below it (Eurostat, 2024). See Compare countries.
Schengen 90/180-day calculator
Visiting the Schengen area without a long-stay visa or a residence permit, you may stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The rule looks back from every day of your stay: in the 180 days ending on that day, you may not have been in the area on more than 90. The day you enter and the day you leave both count.

- Nationals of countries outside the EU, the EEA and Switzerland on a short stay, with or without a visa. EU, EEA and Swiss citizens have free movement and are not counted.
- Not counted
- Days spent under a residence permit or a long-stay (national) visa of a Schengen country.
- The area
- 29 countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. Cyprus and Ireland are EU members outside the area and apply their own rules, as does the United Kingdom.
